YOUR VIEWS MATTER

Volume 37, Number 1, December 1998

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all readers of MEDAL NEWS a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I have been sitting at the Editor's desk for nine months, and I would like to thank all those who have contributed to the magazine, in whatever way, for their time and effort. I am particularly gratified by the response to the "Collector's Page", and I hope that those articles that we have published to date will inspire other readers, who have not yet found the motivation to write anything about their collecting interest, to make the decision to go into print. It is very gratifying to read letters and e-mails from those of you who obviously enjoy our product, but it is equally important that anyone who is dissatisfied in any way should feel free to express that dissatisfaction. The editorial staff are always ready to listen to constructive criticism, and although there are, obviously, some things that cannot be changed easily (or at all), any ideas for improving the service we provide to our readers will be given full consideration. Indeed, the response to the questionnaire in the October issue has been very strong, and we hope to be able to provide an analysis of the replies in the first issue of the New Year. Any reader who has not yet responded, please do so. Your views matter. The year is ending with excellent auctions at the major London houses, and reports of these will appear in "Market Scene" in the February edition. While it is relatively easy for us to keep track of these metropolitan sales, it is less easy to do the same for smaller auctions in provincial and county towns, and I would be very pleased to hear from any readers who regularly attend auctions which have medal interest, and which are not reported by MEDAL NEWS or any other specialist publication. Additionally, if any auctioneers would like us to publicise their forthcoming events, and can provide us with information so that we could preview their respective sales in time to alert readers, we would be pleased to do so. The more information there is about medals available for sale, the better it is for all collectors; all of us would relish the chance of finding just what we are looking for, sometimes in the most unexpected places, and at unexpected times.
