A TOKEN TITLE This work by renowned author Allan Stanistreet gives the full account of each Albert Medal awarded to the men and women of the armed services who did not survive to exchange their medals for the George Cross in 1971. The Albert medal was originally instituted by Royal Warrant on March 7 1866 as an award for Gallantry in Saving Life at Sea - ten years later a new Royal warrant created the Albert Medal for Saving Life on Land. The medal quickly became looked upon as the premier award for bravery "not in the face of the enemy" - the civilian equivalent of the Victoria Cross. However it could also be awarded to serving men and women who performed acts of extreme courage in the course of their daily lives and all those who received it could truly be counted heroes - it is these brave individuals whose deeds are recounted in this wonderful book. Published 2002; author Allan Stanistreet; 208 pp. ISBN: 978 1870192 538
