Clydesdale Bank has announced that from next year they will issue notes made from "plastic" (in fact polymer) ahead of the introduction of similar notes by the Bank of England in 2016. The new £5 note, which features the Forth Rail Bridge, will go into circulation as limited edition in 2015 although of course it won't be the first such note issued in the British Isles - the Isle of Man had one in the 1980s and Northern Ireland produced a limited edition polymer £5 note back in 1999 to celebrate the new Millennium - more details can be found at the BBC
