Frome Hoard to stay in Somerset!

Posted on Tue, 22 March 2011 by Phil Mussell - General News, Coin News

The largest hoard of coins ever found in Britain is to stay in the County where it was discovered

Thanks mainly to a National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) grant of £294,000 the Museum of Somerset has raised a total of £320,250 to keep the Frome Hoard, found last year by metal detectorist Dave Crisp from Wiltshire. It had been thought the coins might go to the British Museum in London or even abroad.

Now they will go on display in Somerset when the Museum's £6.9m revamp is completed in the summer.
