Farewell to Elgar

Posted on Wed, 30 June 2010 by Phil Mussell - General News, Banknote News

June 30 was the last day you could officially use the Elgar £20 - it was withdrawn from this date and is now fully replaced by the Adam Smith £20 note issued first in 2007.

Personally I feel the loss of one of England's Greats, replaced by a Scot whom few outside the world of Economics had ever heard of before his arrival on our currency, is a great shame - but then what do I know...?

After June 30 you can change your Elgar notes at most banks, even the Post Office but shops are no longer obliged to take them
