The "lost VC" of Private Mariner made £120,750 when it came up for auction at Spink on November 23. The VC, which lay forgotten in a drawer for years only came to light recently.
It had been speculated that the hammer price might not be as high as for some recent VCs as it wasn't certain whether Lord Ashcroft would now bid, having just published a book on his collection, however whether he bid or not there were others who did and £120,750 is a very respectable result!
