The important Battle of Britain fighter ace’s CVO, DSO, DFC* group of eleven awarded to Group Captain Peter Townsend (1914-1995) of the Royal Air Force, who was also known for his romance with the Queen’s sister, Princess Margaret, hammered at a very impressive £260,000 at DNW's Wednesday, July 21 sale.
The outstanding ‘Iraq 2003’ CGC group of seven, awarded to Corporal, later Warrant Officer Class 2, Shaun Garry Jardine of the King’s Own Scottish Borderers, later Royal Regiment of Scotland, sold for a hammer price of £140,000.
