Thomas Simon's beautiful 1656 Gold "Pattern Broad" 50 shillings hammered at a staggering £380,000 (£471,200 total) at DNW's January 21 sale. The coin, which was part of the Marvin Lessen North Yorkshire Moors collection, is thought to be one of only 12 in existence and the price fetched is a record for a Cromwellian coin.
