The Brexit 50p

Posted on Wed, 29 January 2020 by Phil Mussell - General News, Coin News

As you can't have failed to notice, one of the most controversial coins of the decimal era goes into circulation on January 31. The design of the so-called "Brexit 50p", minted to mark the UK leaving the European Union, was unveiled last year but, of course, the date has had to be changed three times now!

Whether you like it or loathe it, whether you believe there should be a comma or not, there's no denying that the coin has brought numismatics to the forefront of the news once again so whether you're a leaver or a remainer you can't deny that the new 50p is good exposure for the hobby!

Do let us know if and when you find one in circulation - we're betting that they'll disappear faster than the "Alphabet 10ps" (which none of us have yet had in our change!) but we may be wrong...
