First Civilian recipient of George Cross for 40 Years

A former Special forces Major - Dominic Troulan has been awarded the George Cross for his part in saving over 200 people during the terrorist attack on a shopping mall in Kenya in 2013. The attack, by al-Shabab extremists killed 67 people during a siege of the shopping mall in Nairobi.

The retired Major, who had served in the Royal Marines in Northern Ireland, returned 12 times to search for and save people from the scene of the attack. He was awarded the George Cross by Her Majesty the Queen in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Friday October 13 making him the first civilian recipient of the award (non-forces or Police) for four decades - more in MEDAL NEWS November!
