Her Majesty The Queen has personally received a gold medallion which bears the image of a Strelitzia flower named after Nelson Mandela, called Mandela's Gold.

The South African Gold Coin Exchange (SAGCE) and its retail division, The Scoin Shop, which hold the exclusive rights to market the Nobel Laureate programme series of medallions, that continues to raise millions for charity, launched its latest Nelson Mandela medallion at the RHS Chelsea Show 2014.

The obverse of the 24 carat gold medallion shows an inspiring image of Nelson Mandela with the title of his acclaimed autobiography and recent film biopic Long Walk to Freedom. The reverse of the medallion carries an image of the Strelitzia Reginae flower, also known as Mandelas Gold, renamed in honour of the icon in 1996.

Alan Demby, Chairman of the SAGCE / Scoin Shop, and sponsor for the past four years of Kirstenbosch, South Africas internationally renowned national botanical garden which exhibited at Chelsea, presented HM Queen Elizabeth with the Mandela medallion.

A Kirstenbosch logo mint mark on the reverse symbolises the common and synergistic sentiment for Nelson Mandela which both Kirstenbosch and The South African Gold Coin Exchange share.

Dembys organisations are the biggest contributors to the Nobel Institute and the Mandela Foundation, through the sale of their medallions.

Minted by the Mint of Norway, the SAGCE/Scoin Shop offer medallions commemorating many of the worlds leading Nobel Laureate Peace Prize recipients including Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, FW De Klerk, Aung San Suu Kyi and Mother Theresa, among many others.
