Operational Honours

Some 131 Men and women have been honoured for their service in Afghanistan with no fewer than five Conspicuous Gallantry Crosses and 18 Military Crosses awarded. There was also a George Medal awarded to Acting Warrant Officer Class 2 Karl John Fairfax LEY, The Royal Logistic Corps for neutralising 42 bombs in 72 hours and three distinguished Flying Crosses including one to a helicopter pilot who managed to land his craft despite being hit eight times by enemy rounds - once on his helmet!
